Metadarwinism

Metadarwinism (meaning "beyond Darwinism") is the philosophy of the Metadars.  In a sentence, Metadarwinism is a philosophy of acceptance and compassion based on the understanding that everybody is a product of luck.

The understanding that everybody is a product of luck goes hand-in-hand with an understanding that life is determined. But Metadarwinism is purposely duplicitous when it comes to determinism. Although Metadarwinism fully accepts determinism as a fact of life, it rejects it as a way of life. Metadarwinism is a balancing act.

Central to Metadarwinsim is a concept called the "Ethics of Luck". If behavior is ultimately determined by previous events, then on some level everybody is equal and everybody is innocent of their successes and failures. In a dice game, a player who has a lucky roll might be congratulated but would never be idolized.  Similarly, a player who has an unlucky roll might be given condolences but would never be violently punished. When it comes to luck, there are appropriate and inappropriate ways to respond. Since Metadarwinism asserts that everything is luck, no idolization or violence is ever justified.

Everyday life can be cruel to those who metaphorically have unlucky rolls of the dice - it's how the social machinery works. But the Metadars take it as their mission to actively gum-up the machinery so that little by little it causes less pain and inequality.
