Bylaws

Article I: Name

The name of this organization shall be the: ST. LOUIS UNIVERSITY METADAR COMMUNITY

 

 

Article II: Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to:

1. Maintain a clear understanding of evolutionary theory and stay informed of current advances in the field.

2. Cultivate an Ethics of Luck and explore ways to effectively treat all people as equals without hatred or adulation.

3. Create and implement community activities that reduce violence and inequality in society.

 

 

Article III: Membership

Membership shall be granted to any person who supports the purpose of the organization and who has paid the annual dues. Membership and eligibility for appointed or elected positions may not be limited on the basis of race, sex, religion, or handicap.

 

 

Article IV: Finances and Dues

The organization shall operate as a non-profit association and no profits may accrue to any individual within the organization. 

A membership fee shall be required so that the organization will be able to pay for necessary expenses such as postage, printing, presentations, meeting room rental, etc. The fee is to be paid on or before the April meeting. The fee for each upcoming year shall be determined by the treasurer and presented to the membership for approval at the March meeting. The dues of new members shall be pro-rated according to the number of meetings left in the calendar year.

 

 

Article V: Officers

There shall be six officers with the following duties:

1. President:  The president shall preside over all meetings and see that all business is conducted in a manner consistent with these bylaws.  Whenever necessary, the President shall create committees and appoint chairpersons who may recruit committee members to assist them.  All chairpersons are responsible to the President.

2. Vice-President:  The vice-president shall preside over meetings in the absence of the president.  In addition, the Vice President will assume Parliamentarian duties when necessary to interpret and arbitrate parliamentary procedures according to Roberts Rules of Order.

3. Secretary:  The secretary shall be responsible for all correspondence, for the accurate recording of all motions and official actions taken at all meetings, and for the reading of these records at the following meeting.  The secretary shall be the official record-keeper for all the organization’s property and documents.  The secretary will prepare the agenda for each meeting.

4. Treasurer:  The treasurer shall be responsible for the collection and the authorized disbursement of the organization’s money.  The treasurer shall also be responsible for maintaining the current membership list and the record of dues paid.  The treasurer shall be responsible for keeping an accurate account of all financial transactions and shall make a financial report at all meetings.

5. Booker:  The Booker shall be responsible for finding people to make educational presentations at our meetings, and for arranging such presentations.

6. Meta Leader:  The Meta Leader shall be responsible for the organization and implementation of group projects that reduce violence and inequality in society.  The meetings conducted by the Meta Leader need not follow parliamentary procedure.

Officers shall be elected at the February meeting and shall serve a 1-year term.  They may be removed from office by a 2/3 majority vote of members.

 

 

Article VI: Meetings

Meetings shall be held at noon on the 2nd Sunday of the month, unless inclement weather or some other situation necessitates postponement.  The presence of 2 officers and 5 non-officer members shall constitute a quorum.

 

 

Article VIII: Amendment of Bylaws

These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the organization by a two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting.
